Important Reminders
The new school year is now upon us. Now would be a great time to check on your
child's reading skills. Did they get lots of opportunities to read this summer? Hopefully they had a chance to read
a few minutes everyday, but if not, now would be a great time to get back into the habit. Here are a few things to look at
when checking on your child's out-loud reading. - Do
they read smoothly or is their out-loud reading choppy and slow? Reading out-loud to you is a great way to monitor how your
child's reading fluency is doing, and it's one way we assess your child throughout the year. We know that reading
plays an important roll in ALL of the academic areas so we are constantly checking to see how your child is doing. If you
have any questions or concerns, please contact your child's teacher or myself for extra help and suggestions to help your
child improve.
- Are they able to answer questions about what they just
read or summarize their reading? If not, start asking them a few questions to think of as they reread the section or book
again. when they are finished rereading, ask them the questions again and see how much they picked up this time!!!
