All about me!

This page is designed to share the different programs I use in my classroom with your child.

 Monthly Reading Challenge

Each month I challenge the students in my program to read as much as possible! I set a group goal for the month and if the students reach our goal then we celebrate in my classroom with a party! It's my way of rewarding the efforts of the students. However, in order to participate in our celebrations each month, I require that each student contribute to reaching that goal. For that reason, if a student doesn't turn in any logs for the challenge month, he/she will not be able to participate in the party! So get out there and READ!! If you need help picking out a book, please come see me. I want my students reading quality books at their personal reading level!!!

The letters stand for: R- Reading E-Excellence W-Word A-Attack and R-Rate D-Development S-Strategies Students who benifit from this program lack word identification skills and are generally slower at oral reading than their peers.

Comprehension Activities:
These activities provide students with an approach they can use to lean all of the skills important to a particular subject. To help your students learn to comprehend what they read, this program offers an interesting fact-or-fiction based story on each page. It has three components: teacher modeling, repeated reading, and progress monitoring. It is based on several research-based theories including the following: Students become good readers by reading. Reading along with a more proficient reader improves word recognition and reading fluency. Reading a passage several times improves fluency. Self-monitoring of progress improves reading achievement.

Reading Challenge: March Madness!
My challenge this month for the students is to really buckel down and READ.
If the entire group turns in a total of 30 hours read by March 17th, I will start a drawing to be held at the end of the month. Each hour they read will put their name in the drawing, so the more they read, the better chance they have to win the prize. At the end of the month I will draw out a winner. The prize will be something really cool! Let's get READING!!
